I love the pattern but have not had a chance to sew it out. I have been very busy redesigning my sewing studio and remodeling my home.
This is a nice easy pattern and as always the instructions are great. I have only made this once so far. What I found is that it feels a little snug under the arms even though I made the correct size for me (size 12). This could be because I used a fabric without a lot of stretch. Next time I am going to size up a bit and see if that helps. It could also be because I don't like clothes to fit too snugly. Apart from that, the pattern is great and fun to make.
Hi Kate,
Yes, this pattern definitely needs the recommended 4-way stretch fabrics (see page 6). Low stretch would absolutely make it quite snug & a little uncomfortable.
I made the dress out of french terry. I chose to bind the neckline and the sleeves (3/4) using a woven bias. I did make a mistake on the arms in that I incorrectly used 1/2 seam (read instructions!) v. 1/4" serged seam. I recut a second dress and sewed that correctly, and the arms were perfect. This is a fantastic dress for beginners or those who have let their garment skills go dormant to have a low stress re-entry into garment sewing.
I made this top in a long tshirt length using a very soft viscose jersey. Beautiful. Worn quite fitted around the shoulders and sleeves and skims over the bust and drapes to the hips. As quite a pear, i expected this top to accentuate my hips and loose the shape of my waist. Quite the opposite. The style of this top is very flattering. Lovely pattern and excellent instructions.
Well written easy pattern to sew, so many inclusions and super duper comfy, I've made both the dress and top numerous times. I love PE Patterns.
